Lovebirds
Lovebirds are small African parrots best known for the strong pair-bonds that give them their name. In our Lovebirds category you’ll find the popular Peach-Faced, Fischer’s, and Masked lovebird species in their main colour mutations.
Single or pair?
A common misconception: you do NOT need to buy lovebirds in pairs. A single hand-fed lovebird will bond strongly with its human and remain tame. A pair will bond with each other instead and often lose interest in their owner. If you want an interactive pet, buy one. If you want aviary birds to observe, buy a pair or group.
Lifespan and temperament
Lovebirds are hardy, relatively quiet (for parrots), and live 15–25 years in good care. They’re excellent for keepers graduating from budgies or cacatúas to something with more parrot-like intelligence. For something even smaller, see our periquitos.
