Tempérament:  One of the world’s most popular birds, many canaries are good singers. Most canaries make good pets or companion birds. Males will whistle/sing better than the hens and most males have a repertoire of songs.

Reproduction:  White-bellied canaries build nests of small cups out of plant fibers, lichens, dry grass, fine roots, twigs, animal hair, and feathers. Nests are placed 1–8 m from the ground in the fork, near the outer end of the horizontal branch in bushes, or in thick foliage or clump of leaves at side or top of bush or tree. They lay clutches of 1–4 eggs, variably whitish, pale blue to greenish-blue, occasionally with fine blackish or reddish-brown spots. Incubation is by females alone. There is no information on the duration of incubation and nestling periods.

Régime:  Classic Finch Seed, Dried Egg Food, Mineral Grit, Cuttlefish Bone, and Australian Blend Goldenfeast. Forages on the ground, in low vegetation, and in bushes and low trees. Singly, in pairs, and in small groups of about six individuals; in the non-breeding season in large flocks.
