Hand-feeding baby parrots is where breeders earn their reputations. It’s also where most husbandry mistakes happen — wrong temperatures, inadequate ventilation, poor hygiene. The 2GR Art. 055 hand-feeding cage is purpose-designed to solve the husbandry problems specific to raising hand-fed chicks from a very young age through to weaning.
What it’s designed for
This cage sits between a brooder (for the youngest, most fragile chicks) and a standard weaning cage. It’s intended for chicks that have graduated out of full brooder temperatures but aren’t yet ready for a fully open flight cage — typically the 3-to-8-week-old stage for medium parrot species.
Key features
- Solid side panels retain warmth; wire front allows observation
- Wide front door gives easy access for multi-chick feeding rotations
- Smooth internal surfaces eliminate bacterial trap points
- Removable floor tray — clean twice daily during hand-feeding
- Stackable design allows multiple units in a breeding room
Used in our own aviary
We raise hundreds of hand-fed chicks per year at Tropical Wings Birds, and the 2GR Art. 055 is one of the cages we rely on throughout the mid-stage hand-feeding cycle. Pair with Brinsea or 2GR brooders for the earlier neonatal stage.
