Ornamental Birds

Ornamental birds are what turn a garden into a spectacle. Our Ornamental Birds collection centres on peafowl (including India Blue, White, Black Shoulder, and other colour varieties) and prĆ©ssecs. These are the birds people build landscaped grounds around — the showpieces of an estate or breeding facility.

Keeping peafowl

Peafowl need space, shelter, and tolerant neighbours (they call loudly during breeding season). A mature peacock needs at least 25 square metres of aviary space and secure roosting. They are hardy, long-lived (often 20+ years), and once settled they rarely stray from their home territory. Peachicks are substantially easier to ship and establish than adult birds, so most of our customers start with chicks.

Colour varieties

India Blue is the classic wild-type peacock — the one most people picture. White peafowl are striking pure-white variants (not albino). Black Shoulder males have deep iridescent black wing barring. Pied, purple, and cameo varieties each bring a distinctive look. If you’re matching birds to an existing flock or selecting for a breeding programme, ask us for specific availability.

If you’re considering other showpiece birds

Peafowl suit estate settings where space is abundant. For smaller but equally spectacular options, see our waterfowl collection (swans are exceptional display birds for ponds) or our tucans for indoor aviaries.
